RAMS is always looking for motivated, talented and enthusiastic students to join our journal and our committees. As you might know we have several vacancies at the moment. We are looking for reviewers, editorial editors and members for the Symposium and Summer School Committee. See below for more information about the different functions. Please feel free to apply for one of these functions or send an open application for multiple functions. Send your motivation letter (max. one A4) and your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org before the 13th of September. Interviews will take place during the week of 25 September.
As a member of the reviewer pool, you evaluate submitted scientific papers, write review reports and provide the author(s) with feedback and suggestions for improvements. Based on your review report, the editors decide whether a paper is accepted for publication (if necessary with minor or major revisions) or rejected. Furthermore, you will improve your scientific skills by attending the annual series of masterclasses. As a reviewer you play a huge role in the content of our journal and you get the chance to develop your skills of critical thinking and peer reviewing, both essential for future doctors and researchers.
The editorial board is responsible for the content of RAMS. The scientific editors will receive review reports from reviewers and combine them into one report. While doing so, they will check the quality of the review reports and will add additional suggestions or remove suggestions they do not agree with. Furthermore, they will give feedback to the reviewers on their reports with the intention to educate the reviewers and maintaining the high quality of RAMS.
The editorial editors write their own articles for RAMS. These articles are meant to be a bit less scientific in content and style. Of course, claims in these articles still need be supported by scientific literature. The articles are meant to be easier to read than scientific articles, and the editorial editors have more freedom to write in their own style and opinionated compared to the scientific articles. Finally, all members of the editorial board will gather once a month to discuss the current status of the content.
RAMS is looking for editorial editors. This is a perfect function if you want to improve your scientific and creative writing skills and play a significant role in the content of the journal.
As member of the Symposium Committee, you will organise two symposia per year for (bio)medical students about an interesting medical topic.The committee is totally free to choose that topic and will invite prominent speakers to come over to the Radboud University Nijmegen. Furthermore, you are responsible for the overall coordination of this symposium. In this function you will develop your skills as an organizer and team player, and you contribute to the scientific education of your fellow (bio)medical students.
Summer School Committee
Each year the Summer School Committee organizes a Summer School for (bio)medical students. After two national Summer Schools in 2015 (RAMS Summer School MDL) and 2016 (RAMS Summer School Neurochirurgie), the first RAMS International Summer School Neurosurgery took place past summer. The Summer School highlights all sides of a specialism: biomedical, medical and research. As a committee member, you will arrange the speakers, logistics, cultural and educational programme, and you’ll develop your organisational and team playing skills. Furthermore, this is a good opportunity to expand your professional network in a certain medical field.
Besides the opportunities each function offers you, involvement with RAMS offers you:
- A unique experience in a large student organization;
- The experience of contributing to the publication of a medical scientific journal;
- A boost of your scientific knowledge and organizational skills;
- Participation in master classes, symposiums and summer school;
- An expansion of your professional network;
